Start with a beautiful hike and then go for whatever your heart desires. In this case, for me it was yoga amongst the Red Rocks. Yes, not only did I get to practice yoga in the most beautiful place possible. On top of that, both the hike and yoga were customized to my wants and needs, a hike that gets the blood and joints moving followed by an intermediate level yoga, light on the knees and balancing. (I’ve been practicing yoga for about 30 years and I still cant balance if my life depended on it. Knees, I’m 58. Shall I say more?)
Liliana, my guide and teacher explained the hike is a wonderful way to start warming up the body. Her goal in yoga is “to allow the body to move intuitively. Enjoying the beauty of each transition and finding the state of union with each pose.” The experience was a traditionally inspired vinyasa flow meaning we “flowed” from one pose to the next. Poses included Plank, Chaturanga, Upward-facing dog, downward facing dog and more. Liliana corrected me when my arm lowered which is the kind of guidance I wanted. If you don’t want that much attention, that’s fine to. This is your time to be whatever you want it to be.
